result oriented environment? Are you committed to working as part of a multi national team in pursuit of humanitarian goals? The position, titled Logistics Officer – Civil Engineer will be based in Nairobi and you will be working with WFP staff, consultants and contractors.
Organizational background
The World Food Programme Somalia activities include food assistance relief, emergency school feeding, humanitarian air and logistics services, food coordination and emergency rehabilitation projects.
Qualifications
• Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification;
• At least 5 years of proven experience in design and construction of building and infrastructure projects;
• Proven experience in quality control and monitoring of contractors, particularly on port road and bridge rehabilitation works.
• Knowledge and ability to use relevant software programs, incl. AutoCAD and Lotus Notes;
• Must be fluent in oral and written English.
Accountabilities:
• Provide technical recommendations for all building and infrastructure issues affecting WFP Somalia.
• Prepare terms of reference for technical staff, consultant and contractors.
• Develop project objectives, concept designs, drawings, specifications, bills of quantities, budgets, timelines, contract forms and tender documents for building and civil engineering projects.
• Conduct technical assessments, prepare technical reports, assess tenders, administer contracts and supervise construction.
• Conduct site inspections, approved works to proceed and prepare site inspection reports.
• Develop quality management procedures for design, tendering, contract management and construction supervision.
• Any other relevant duties given from time to time.
Personal profile:
As an expert in your field, you will be required to undertake training and capacity building activities for the staff, consultants and contractors from time to time. Importantly, in the face of adversity, you should possess the ability to accomplish objectives from remote distances. You should possess sound organization and coordination skills and have the ability to build collaborative and cross-cultural relationships. Key to this profile is to have a high stress tolerance threshold and have the ability to make operational decisions in difficult conditions. You will have to inject an element of creativity so as to accomplish objectives from remote distances.
