Shift Engineer

Introduction

Job Summary:

Reporting to Chief Engineer, the job holder is responsible for ensuring proper operation
of generation equipment and its auxiliaries and supervision of staff.
 

Minimum Requirements

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
Ms Office proficiency and Auto CAD.
Registered Graduate Engineer

Related Job Experience/Qualifications:

At least 3 year experience/exposure after graduation from university.

Additional skills:

Good Leadership, interpersonal and analytical skills

Project Management will be an added advantage.

Good supervisory Skills, ability to deliver on targets is essential.

 

Job Specification

Key Duties:

Duties/Responsibility

•Ensures that electricity is generated at the lowest cost

•Responsible for the operation shift

•Makes decisions based on collected data on how to generate
electricity

•Report and confirm equipment defects

•Issue job cars and authorise work permits

•Surveillance monitoring and control of plant

•Ensure safety of equipment and staff

•On the job training for new staff

•Analyse operations data collected

% Time

Occasional duties:

Assists in budget preparation

•Acts as a senior Shift Engineer

Responsibility:

Equipment:

The responsible for the ensuring efficient and optimal running of the power plant and its
auxiliaries.
Judgement and Decision-Making:
The job holder provides advice with regard to shutting down of equipment during operations

Operations staff - frequent contact

Extenal contacts

National Control Centre.

Work environment:

The job holder is required to work 60% in the Control Room, 30% in the power house,
10% administrative roles out of the plant.
