Mechanical Engineer

Introduction

Job Summary:
Reporting to Chief Engineer, the ideal candidate will be responsible for efficient and
optimal running of mechanical plant and equipment.
 

Minimum Requirements

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science (Mechanical/Production Engineering)
  • Must be a registered graduate engineer
Related Job Experience/Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years experience in factory processes, power generation, and operations with a bias in steam turbines, diesel generators and water systems.
Additional skills:
  • Ms Office proficiency and Auto CAD.
  • Good Leadership, interpersonal and analytical skills

 

Job Specification

Work environment:
The jobholder is in the office 20% of the time, 80% of the time outdoors, with moderate
exposure to hazards. The job is physically demanding at a minor level with moderate
disruptions to leisure.

Additional Information:
The jobholder plans ahead annually (one month ahead), semi annual (2 weeks ahead), quarterly
(I week ahead) for maintenance program, 9 months ahead for budget preparation, various lead
time depending on need and item for procurement of spares and materials and immediately for
emergency breakdown.

Key Duties:

Duty/responsibility
Oversee all MMS activities in the station by ensuring
mechanical work orders both planned and corrective are
executed and closed. Carry out annual and semi annual
Carry out condition based maintenance and parameters
maintenance
trends analysis
Preparation of statistics for end month technical report
Oversee station cleanliness
Carry out safety inspection regularly
Hold safety committee meetings & prepare minutes
Prepare estimates specifications & tender documents for
materials & spares
Carry out administrative duties e.g control of movement of
company vehicle
Recommend attendance sheets
Approve planned and emergency overtime
Routine station repair and maintenance works
Update EMS/QMS documents, safety reports. Ensure
statutory regulations and company safety rules and
regulations are fully implemented introducing changes and
Monitor the systems performance propose improvement and modification as necessary
Preparation of annual operation, maintenance and capital
budgets and their administration within limit of the board
approval
Need identification and procurement (spares, materials,
training, professional services)

Occasional duties:

Participating in project implementation
Represent the station at the meetings eg health and safety, station head’s meeting
etc
Organising and carrying out emergency drills
QMS/ EMS coordination

Responsibility:
He is also responsible for identification/ specification of spare parts, for the
recommending for repair and maintenance power house and authorising expenditure
for budget management- worth 10,000.

Judgement and Decision-Making:

Operational level decision making
a) Final authority decisions- During maintenance, duty allocation
b) Decisions referred to another person-Request for outage, budget expenditures- worth
10,000
