mechanical technician

Introduction

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineer, duties and responsibilities include maintenance
of heavy equipments, mobile plants and water supply system.

 

Minimum Requirements

Educational Requirements:

“O”Level

Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, (plant option) from National Universities/University
Colleges or KNEC

Related Job Experience/Qualifications:

At least 3 years experience in maintenance of heavy plant and equipment.

Additional skills:

Ms Office proficiency
Good Leadership, supervisory, interpersonal and analytical skills.

 

Job Specification

Key Duties:

Duty/responsibility

•Preventive and breakdown maintenances of generating units
and associated equipments.

•Carry out periodic scheduled maintenance and auxiliaries with
minimum supervision.

•To be accountable for quality and quantity of work, formulation
of work plan , materials and tool required

•Plan, execute, write reports and close work orders which
generate periodically(maintenance management)

•SAP – create reservations, raise purchase requisitions ,and
execute reservations raised

•Inventory – for tools and rigs , system improvement and
modification

•To be accountable for personnel and equipment safety during
operations and maintenance.

•Supervise plant operators

Occasional duties:

The job holder may be called upon to:

•Assist in routine / breakdown maintenances in other stations

•Budget preparation

•Assist in formulation of technical specifications for buying major equipment.

•QMS

Responsibility:

The job holder has responsibility for repair and maintenance of rigging equipment,
personal tool box, computer for use in the office.

Judgement and Decision-Making:

The job holder makes decision and judgement during machine of is auxiliaries breakdown/trips
through an analytical procedures of the events/causes.

Contacts:

Internal contacts: Chief Engineer , staff,

External contacts: Stakeholders.

Work environment:

The job holder spends 20 % of the time in the office and 80 % at the power house and
other stations.

Additional Information:

Training needs identification for mechanical staff

• Raising Purchase requisitions, Supervising various activities allocated by the
chief engineer’ Advising on plant modifications

• Problems – challenge in breakdown faults diagnosis

• Planning – monthly, semi annual and annual maintenance
